Member Interview: AllCargoNet, USA

SFN members are highly competent and professional, with a wealth of knowledge and industry experience to share.

With that in mind, we interviewed some of our members to ask for their views on the industry today, the benefits of networking, and their comments on the Pandemic. In July, we spoke to Juan Francisco Leon, General Manager at AllCargoNet in the USA:

How did you start out in Freight Forwarding?

"In the early 90’s I was exporting a lot from the US to South America, then I decided that I could be my own freight forwarding company and start my own NVOCC... that was back in 1994."

Your thoughts on how things have changed due to the Pandemic?

"This pandemic hit our industry very hard, almost all countries are or were in quarantine for a long time and not working normally for months. Obviously, that affected our sales and revenues. Because of this pandemic, our safety measures are extreme and have changed the way we work; for example, we are working every other day in shifts, also a lot of home-office work."

What are the main challenges facing independent forwarders?

"I think the major challenge is coverage, and access to good rates - I mean really good rates."

How relevant is networking in today’s forwarding industry?

"Networking is very relevant because it gives you the power of the coverage you need all over the world. That is the only way to compete with the big forwarders."

How do you see the future for independent forwarders?

"The future right now looks uncertain ,  we will have to adjust our companies to these "new times"... I don’t want to use the word “new normal”, but I am optimistic."
