We recently asked some of our members to share their views on the industry today, the benefits of networking, and their vision for the future. Here are some comments from Helia Rocha at World Ocean Cargo Iberica (WOCI) in Spain.

How did you start your career in freight forwarding? 
I started in 2008 in a company that in the past World Ocean Cargo Iberica was in a group with. Initially, I did administrative tasks. Later, in my first year of University (2009), by November I started in WOCI. I started in the accounts department, in export, import and now in sales. More than 12 years already.

What are your company's main strengths? 
Close relationship with our clients and suppliers; flexible, quick reaction to changes. We are more ocean than air and more import than export. 

Our guarantee is to provide a personalized service according to the needs of each client. We globally coordinate the projects and shipments that we carry out.

What are the main challenges facing independent freight forwarders in 2023? 
Getting IATA certification and starting operation as an IATA member.

What are the main benefits of network membership, for your company? 
Having partners worldwide to offer door to door solutions to our clients. Imports, exports and Cross trades. 

What are your predictions for the future of the industry? 
Freight will be more stable as in the past months. More space, fewer shipping lines to avoid vessels with no full loadings. More big freight forwarders; to keep in the market freight forwarders have to have different services and as much control as possible to overcome challenges in the future.
